Energy audits at Messer Hai Phong industrial gas plants

This report records the 2021 project. Figures, practices, factory scale and proposals reflect the survey period; they do not establish the factory’s current status.

This article records energy audits at two plants of Messer Hai Phong Industrial Gases Co., Ltd., located in Hai Duong and Quang Ngai. The plants mainly supplied industrial gases for Hoa Phat steel production.

Survey context

According to the project information, both facilities used German technology and air as the feedstock for industrial gas production. The company sought to save energy and raise awareness of efficient energy use in its operations.

Measures proposed by ITVC

• Establish an energy management system based on ISO 50001:2018.
• Replace 400 W and 250 W high-pressure mercury lamps with 100 W LED lights at the locations considered.
• Replace 36 W fluorescent lamps with 18 W T8 LED lamps.
• Consider installing a chilled-water thermal storage tank for the chiller system.

Implementation planning

The proposals need to be assessed against the operating conditions and technical requirements of each facility. Setting priorities, allocating resources and defining how results will be measured helps turn the audit report into actions that can be tracked.
