EICC participants must address environmental management and protection as well as occupational health and safety. The article below retains the structure of the historical EICC guidance.
Historical reference following the EICC structure. The original diagram and clause numbers are retained; this is not a current assessment checklist. For implementation, check the applicable RBA Code, legislation and customer requirements.
EICC environmental requirements
Original ITVC training diagram. English translation: C — Environment: C1 Environmental permits and reporting; C2 Pollution prevention and resource reduction; C3 Hazardous substances; C4 Wastewater and solid waste; C5 Air emissions; C6 Materials restrictions; C7 Stormwater management; C8 Energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
C1) Environmental permits and reporting
C1.1 Facilities must obtain all legally required environmental permits, approvals, licences and registrations.
C1.2 Reports required by environmental authorities must be submitted on time in accordance with legislation.
C2) Pollution prevention and resource reduction
C2.1 Establish an adequate and effective programme, including objectives and targets, to identify, manage and reduce the impacts of all types of waste.
C3) Hazardous substances
C3.1 Hazardous substances, including waste, must be properly classified, labelled, handled, stored, transported and disposed of through licensed and/or government-approved providers as required by local legislation.
C3.2 Workers handling hazardous substances must receive adequate and effective training.
C3.3 Assess hazardous-waste service providers to verify that handling, storage and disposal meet local requirements, permit conditions and contractual obligations.
C4) Wastewater and solid waste
C4.1 Identify, manage and reduce solid waste, and dispose of or recycle it responsibly in accordance with legal requirements.
C4.2 Manage industrial/process wastewater and sewage discharges to prevent water pollution and meet discharge limits for regulated constituents. Regularly monitor wastewater-treatment system performance.
C5) Air emissions
C5.1 Air emissions must be identified, characterised, routinely monitored, controlled and treated before discharge. Meet emission limits for regulated constituents and regularly monitor emission-control system performance.
C5.2 Environmental noise levels must remain within prescribed limits.
C6) Materials restrictions
C6.1 Establish an effective programme to meet legal and customer restrictions on materials as a formal part of purchasing and manufacturing. Include effective procedures and records for measuring and/or documenting the chemical composition of products.
C7) Stormwater management
C7.1 Establish adequate and effective procedures to prevent stormwater contamination and stop discharges and spills from entering storm drains.
C8) Energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions
C8.1 Monitor and record energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
C8.2 Implement effective methods to improve energy efficiency and minimise energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
