The role of Sanctioned Interpretations

For businesses in the automotive supply chain, IATF 16949 provides the quality management framework required by automotive OEM customers. It establishes a demanding system for managing and improving product quality.

Following publication in October 2016, the International Automotive Task Force (IATF) issued interpretations affecting several requirements.

The IATF 16949:2016 Sanctioned Interpretations documents provide details of these changes.

Publication milestones in 2017–2018

SIs 1–9 were issued in October 2017 and became effective that month.

SIs 10–11 were issued in April 2018 and became effective in June 2018.
