Thermal imaging services for industrial equipment

Thermal imaging services: fast, non-contact inspection to support safer and more effective maintenance.

Why use thermal imaging?

Thermal imaging helps identify abnormal heating in industrial systems. Infrared technology records surface-temperature patterns, supporting trend analysis and identification of areas that need investigation.

Engineers combine thermal images with operating information to assess signs of electrical or mechanical faults and plan maintenance and corrective or preventive action. Many faults produce abnormal heat, but thermal imaging alone cannot determine every cause.

Benefits of thermal imaging

  • Fast, visual inspection with results that are easy to communicate.
  • Non-contact measurement from an appropriate distance; operating equipment can be inspected when access and safety conditions permit.
  • Practical deployment after defining measurement conditions, including operating load, surface emissivity and reflected radiation.
  • Applications across electrical equipment, machinery, tanks, piping and buildings.
  • Supports prevention of equipment damage, downtime and risks to facilities and people.

Mechanical-system applications

  • AC/DC motors.
  • Pumps, fans and compressors.
  • Gearboxes, couplings, bearings and hydraulic systems.
  • Drives, conveyors and electrical connections.

Electrical-system applications

  • Heating patterns associated with load imbalance.
  • Thermal anomalies potentially associated with harmonics, including third-harmonic current in the neutral; electrical measurements are needed for confirmation.
  • Overloaded systems or excessive current.
  • Loose or deteriorated connections with increased contact resistance.
  • Signs of insulation or component deterioration.
  • Connection and wiring problems or unsuitable components.
  • Electrical panels and substations.
