Siemens MICROMASTER Fault Codes: Troubleshooting Reference

This reference explains common Siemens MICROMASTER fault messages. The exact interpretation and permitted actions depend on the drive model, frame size, firmware and installation. Use the matching Siemens MICROMASTER 440 documentation before troubleshooting.

Work for qualified personnel: isolate the equipment, secure it against unexpected starting and follow the manufacturer’s discharge and verification procedure before opening or touching electrical parts. A reset is not a repair.

Common fault codes

F0001 — Overcurrent

Possible causes include a short circuit or earth fault, unsuitable motor sizing or motor data, excessive cable effects, a mechanical obstruction, or acceleration that is too demanding. Check the installation, load and settings against the manufacturer’s instructions.

F0002 — Overvoltage

Review supply voltage and regenerative energy during deceleration. Deceleration settings, braking arrangements and DC-link control may require engineering review. Do not change protection settings simply to suppress a trip.

F0003 — Undervoltage

Investigate the incoming supply, voltage disturbances, sudden load changes and possible drive hardware issues.

F0004 — Inverter overtemperature

Check the cooling arrangement, ventilation, ambient conditions, fan operation, loading and switching-frequency requirements. Additional fault information varies by drive frame and model.

F0005 — Inverter thermal overload

Review duty cycle, repeated reversing, load and the suitability of the drive and motor combination.

F0011 — Motor overtemperature

Review motor loading, thermal data and protection settings. Sustained low-speed operation, inadequate cooling or excessive boost can contribute.

F0012 — Inverter temperature sensor fault

The temperature sensing circuit or its connection requires qualified inspection.

F0015 — Motor temperature sensor fault

Investigate the sensor circuit for an open circuit, short circuit or unsuitable configuration, following the model-specific manual.

F0020 — Input phase loss

Check the supply and phase condition using the approved diagnostic procedure.

F0021 — Earth fault

Investigate the motor and cable insulation and the drive’s applicable earth-fault detection arrangement. Detection thresholds and supported frames must be verified in the manual.

F0022 — Power-section or hardware fault

Potential causes include power-semiconductor faults, DC-side faults, braking issues, earthing and connections. Intermittent trips can also relate to load or operating conditions. The code alone does not prove which component has failed.

F0023 — Output fault

Use the specific drive’s diagnostic information to check output connections and the indicated fault condition.

F0024 — Rectifier overtemperature

Inspect the cooling system, fans, ambient conditions and loading where this fault applies to the installed model.

F0030 — Fan failure

Check the fan system and arrange the appropriate repair or replacement before returning the drive to service.

A systematic response

  1. Record the full fault code, additional diagnostic values, operating state and recent changes.
  2. Identify the exact drive model and consult its fault list.
  3. Make the equipment safe before physical inspection.
  4. Correct the identified cause and review related motor, load and protection settings.
  5. Use only the reset method specified for that installation, then perform a controlled functional check.

Repeated trips require diagnosis. Do not repeatedly cycle power or erase fault history to keep equipment running. Retain the history for maintenance analysis.
