Can a Company Prepare Its Own Energy Audit Report?

A company can collect data and analyse its energy use internally. However, preparing an audit report to meet a legal obligation requires checking the eligibility of the organisation undertaking the audit and the documentation requirements. A summary of electricity bills alone cannot replace an energy audit report.

Capabilities to prepare

• Specialist personnel and energy auditors appropriate to the scope of work.
• Measuring equipment, measurement procedures and records demonstrating accuracy.
• The ability to analyse current performance, prepare an energy balance and evaluate proposed measures.
• A person responsible for quality control, compilation and report writing.

Check current requirements before undertaking the audit internally

Decree 30/2026/ND-CP sets out conditions for energy audit organisations in Article 6 and the declaration procedure in Article 7. These include requirements for technical management, quality responsibility, auditors, equipment and measurement procedures. The short checklist in an older article should not be used on its own to conclude that a company is eligible.

A practical starting point

First compile energy and production data, system diagrams and operating schedules. Then define the scope, available resources and activities requiring external support. This preparation provides a clearer basis for measurement and report preparation.
