Energy Efficiency in Hospitals

The Green Hospital Project aimed to improve energy efficiency and environmental performance in healthcare facilities. The article describes pilot activities at Viet Duc Friendship Hospital in Hanoi and People's Hospital 115 in Ho Chi Minh City.

Equipment and improvement scope

According to the published project information, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital put the following equipment into operation:

• New-generation air-conditioning equipment.
• An energy management system control cabinet.
• A heat-recovery ventilation unit.
• Air circulation fans.

Savings reported for the project

According to the assessment by the Ho Chi Minh City Energy Conservation Centre (ECC HCMC) cited in the original article, the measures were expected to save 830,261 kWh, approximately VND 1.2 billion, and reduce CO₂ emissions by 518 tonnes each year.

These estimates relate to the project's particular scope and period. They are not default savings for every hospital. Operating hours, electricity prices and equipment-use conditions must be checked when using them as a reference.

Participating organisations

The original article records that the project was supported by Mitsubishi through a grant, under the supervision and management of Japan's NEDO and Vietnamese organisations. The example illustrates the value of combining equipment improvements with energy monitoring during operation.
