Cleaner Production and Energy Savings in the Textile Industry

Summary of cleaner production research results in the textile industry:

Nam Dinh Silk Company

Dyed fabric: 13,000 tonnes per year

Investment: VND 715 million
Savings: VND 39 million per year

High-quality products increased by 6%, reprocessing decreased by 3%, and water use decreased by 16,208 m³ per year.

Nhat Tri Dyeing Facility

Zipper dyeing: 720 tonnes per year

Yarn dyeing: 80 tonnes per year

Investment: VND 86.44 million
Savings: VND 1,023 million per year

High-quality products increased by 8% and reprocessing decreased by 8%. Consumption fell by 63% for dye, 13% for electricity and 14.3% for fuel.

Annual releases to the environment decreased by 4 tonnes of dye, 88 tonnes of greenhouse gases and 1.2 tonnes of SO₂.

Saigon Textile Company

Towel sizing and dyeing: 144 tonnes per year

Investment: VND 20.7 million
Savings: VND 233 million

Consumption decreased by 20% for chemicals, 25% for dye, 8% for electricity and 9% for fuel.

Annual releases to the environment decreased by 514 kg of dye and 10 tonnes of greenhouse gases.

Trung Thu Textile and Dyeing Company

Military fabric dyeing: 150 tonnes per year

Investment: VND 25 million
Savings: VND 80.85 million

High-quality grade-A products increased by 17% and reprocessing decreased by 17%. Material consumption decreased, including 48% for caustic soda, 34% for acid, 46% for soda ash and 15% for hydrosulphite, together with reductions in other chemicals.

Phuoc Long Textile Company

Dyeing Workshop B

Investment: VND 61 million
Savings: VND 565 million per year

Wastewater decreased by 26%, with substantial reductions in gaseous emissions and pollution loads.

The defective-product rate decreased and a new product was introduced.

Thuan Thien Textile and Dyeing Facility

Investment: VND 1,400 million
Savings: VND 1,000 million per year

Wastewater decreased by 34%, organic pollution load by 30% and gaseous emissions by 70%.

A system for recording and reporting input and output data was established. Reprocessing decreased and production output increased by 30%.
