ISO 14001:2015 awareness, interpretation and internal auditor course — December 2015

Course objectives

The course provided participants with information on:

• Interpretation and analysis of the requirements of each ISO 14001:2015 clause.
• Internal audit theory and practice.
• The sequence for transitioning an environmental management system to ISO 14001:2015.
• The announced programme included free ISO 14001:2015 standard materials in English and guidance on updating and transitioning between editions.
• By the end of the course, participants were expected to have the knowledge and understanding needed to apply the requirements flexibly and effectively when operating an ISO 14001:2015 environmental management system.

Training content

Day one: Interpretation of ISO 14001:2015 requirements

• General awareness of the environment and environmental management systems.
• Overview of the ISO 14000 family of standards.
• Changes from ISO 14001:2004 to ISO 14001:2015.
• Identification of new requirements for documented information: documents and records.
• Interpretation of requirements, clause by clause.

Day two: Internal auditing of an ISO 14001:2015 environmental management system

• Audit programme planning skills.
• Audit preparation and checklist development.
• Auditing practice.
• Audit reporting.

Guidance on upgrading to ISO 14001:2015.

Training method

• Practical exercises introduced participants to real situations. Participants took part as system consultants and auditors under the trainer’s guidance.

• Senior leaders, environmental management representatives (EMRs), environmental officers and environmental management team members.

• Schedule: two days, Friday–Saturday, 4–5 December 2015.
