CSR and Social Compliance Consulting in Ho Chi Minh City

1. Corporate social responsibility

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) concerns how a business manages its impacts on people, working conditions, the environment and ethical conduct. Suppliers in Ho Chi Minh City may face specific customer requirements for social compliance, responsible production and sustainability information.

2. Understanding the relevant programmes

The programme should be selected for the customer's actual requirements. The following names refer to different standards, codes, assessment methods or tools; they do not all lead to the same type of certificate:

  • SA8000: social accountability and working conditions.
  • RBA: a code covering labour, health and safety, environment, ethics and management systems.
  • amfori BSCI: social-performance assessment and improvement in supply chains.
  • SMETA: an ethical-trade audit methodology used through Sedex arrangements.
  • WRAP: responsible-production certification, particularly relevant to apparel and related manufacturing.
  • WCA: assessment of workplace conditions.
  • ICTI-related programmes: responsible sourcing and labour conditions in the toy supply chain; confirm the currently applicable programme.
  • GSCP: reference tools historically used for social and environmental compliance.
  • GRS: recycled-content and chain-of-custody requirements together with relevant processing requirements.
  • Higg Index: sustainability assessment tools, with distinct modules and purposes.

3. What customers commonly expect

Transparency and compliance

Customers may request clear information about production sites, working conditions and the applicable standards or supplier code. Requirements differ by brand and contract; a supplier should confirm them directly.

Environmental performance

Relevant expectations may concern resource use, emissions, water, waste, chemicals or recycled materials. The selected framework determines which evidence and metrics are needed.

Human rights and working conditions

Common priorities include prevention of child and forced labour, non-discrimination, safe working conditions, wages and working hours, and channels through which workers can raise concerns.

Assessment and follow-up

Customers may use periodic audits or assessments and require corrective-action evidence. Training and technical support can help suppliers maintain improvements between assessments.

4. Benefits of consulting support

  • Clarify customer expectations and the applicable assessment scope.
  • Strengthen management of labour, environmental and ethical risks.
  • Improve internal responsibilities, records and worker awareness.
  • Support customer confidence and supply-chain participation.
  • Develop more consistent daily practices and continual improvement.

Consulting does not guarantee certification, a particular audit score or new business. The relevant assessment or certification body makes its own decision under the programme rules.

5. ITVC's consulting process

  1. Current-state survey: review working conditions, production activities and relevant environmental and social arrangements.
  2. Gap analysis: compare current practice with the chosen requirements and prioritise improvements.
  3. Action plan: propose practical measures, documentation and compliance checks suited to the company's size and sector.
  4. Implementation and training: support agreed improvements and help managers and workers understand their roles.
  5. Assessment preparation: review evidence, prepare for the relevant audit and support responses to findings. The output may be a report, rating or certificate depending on the programme.
  6. Maintenance and improvement: help the business keep controls effective and respond to changes in customer or programme requirements.
