The greenhouse gas inventory project at Chin Huei has the following main objectives:

Overview

The greenhouse gas inventory project is an important initiative to measure and manage greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere during the company’s production and business activities. It also demonstrates the company’s responsibility and market potential. ITVC Global, a reputable consultancy with extensive greenhouse gas inventory experience, was selected as the contractor for the greenhouse gas inventory project at Chin Huei.

With support from ITVC Global’s greenhouse gas inventory experts, the project was carried out over two months and completed in November 2023. It was verified with good results and high accuracy and reliability.

Implementation steps

The greenhouse gas inventory process includes the following essential activities:

Step 1: Determine the sector-level greenhouse gas inventory methodology

Refer to the 2006 IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories (IPCC 2006) and the 2019 Refinement to the 2006 IPCC Guidelines (IPCC 2019).

Detailed inventory methods for each subsector follow Appendix I.1 of Circular No. 17/2022/TT-BTNMT.

Step 2: Select sector-level greenhouse gas emission factors

Emission factors used for sector-level greenhouse gas inventories follow the list published by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

Step 3: Collect activity data for the greenhouse gas inventory

Activity data are collected from the company’s operations involving energy use and the use of greenhouse gases.

Activity data collection principles, procedures and forms follow Appendix I.2 of Circular No. 17/2022/TT-BTNMT.

Step 4: Calculate greenhouse gas emissions

Calculate and compile emissions using the forms for activity data, emission factors and global warming potentials.

Step 5: Control the quality of the greenhouse gas inventory

Assess uncertainty in greenhouse gas inventory results. The smaller the uncertainty, or statistically estimated error, the more accurate the inventory results.

Step 6: Prepare the greenhouse gas inventory report

Prepare the report using Form No. 04 in Appendix II of Decree No. 06/2022/ND-CP on greenhouse gas emission mitigation and ozone layer protection.
