C-TPAT consulting process

The following is an indicative consulting and implementation plan for a business.

C-TPAT is a voluntary programme administered by US Customs and Border Protection (CBP). CBP determines membership and conducts validation. Consulting or a customer-requested assessment does not itself confer membership; check current criteria for the relevant business entity.

The original plan estimates about 4–6 months for establishing and implementing controls, depending on the site’s scale and complexity. This is an indicative project estimate, not a guaranteed CBP approval or validation timetable.

Supplier assessment and programme membership

CBP administers membership applications, certification and validation; ITVC supports preparation and improvement. An intermediary is not required to apply, and CBP does not charge a programme joining fee. Optional consulting, training or customer-requested assessments have separate commercial arrangements.
