What is ISO 14067?

ISO 14067 specifies principles, requirements and guidance for quantifying the carbon footprint of products. Its purpose is to quantify the GHG emissions associated with the life-cycle stages of a product, beginning with resource extraction and raw material sourcing, through production and use, to the product's end of life.

ISO 14067 is part of the ISO 14060 family of standards. This family provides clarity and consistency in the quantification, monitoring, reporting, validation and verification of GHG emissions and removals, supporting sustainable development through a low-carbon economy. It benefits organizations, project proponents and stakeholders worldwide by providing clarity and consistency in these activities. Specifically, the TCVN ISO 14060 family is used to:

enhance the environmental integrity of GHG quantification;
enhance the credibility, consistency and transparency of GHG quantification, monitoring, reporting, validation and verification;
facilitate the development and implementation of GHG management strategies and plans;
facilitate the development and implementation of mitigation actions through emission reductions or improved removals;
enable the tracking of performance and progress in reducing GHG emissions and/or increasing GHG removals.

Standards in the ISO 14060 family:

ISO 14064-1 details principles and requirements for designing, developing, managing and reporting organization-level GHG inventories. It includes requirements for defining GHG emission and removal boundaries, quantifying an organization's GHG emissions and removals, and identifying specific company actions or activities to improve GHG management. It also includes requirements and guidance on inventory quality management, reporting, internal auditing and the organization's responsibilities in verification activities.
ISO 14064-2 details principles and requirements for determining baselines and monitoring, quantifying and reporting project emissions. It focuses on GHG projects or project-level activities specifically designed to reduce GHG emissions and/or enhance GHG removals. It provides a basis for the verification and validation of GHG projects.
ISO 14064-3 details requirements for verifying GHG statements relating to GHG inventories, GHG projects and product carbon footprints. It describes the verification or validation process, including planning, assessment procedures and the evaluation of organizational, project and product GHG statements.
ISO 14065 defines requirements for bodies that validate and verify GHG statements. These cover impartiality, competence, communication, validation and verification processes, appeals, complaints and the management systems of validation and verification bodies. It can be used as a basis for accreditation and other forms of recognition concerning their impartiality, competence and consistency.
ISO 14066 specifies competence requirements for validation and verification teams. It includes principles and competence requirements based on the tasks that validation or verification teams must be able to perform.
14067 specifies principles, requirements and guidance for quantifying the carbon footprint of products. Its purpose is to quantify the GHG emissions associated with the life-cycle stages of a product, from resource extraction and raw material sourcing, through production and use, to the product's end of life.
ISO/TR 14069 supports users in applying TCVN ISO 14064-1, providing guidance and examples to help improve transparency in emissions quantification and reporting. It does not provide additional guidance beyond TCVN ISO 14064-1.
