Ship bunker fuel testing services

Bunker fuel inspection and testing help assess fuel quality and reduce the risk of machinery problems. The testing scope should reflect the fuel grade, contract specification and relevant requirements.

Typical testing parameters

• Density, viscosity and flash point.
• Sulfur, hydrogen sulfide and water content.
• Ash, carbon residue and asphaltenes.
• Pour point, stability and total sediment potential.
• Microbial or chemical contamination screening where relevant.
• Chlorinated compounds where included in the agreed scope.

Agreeing the scope

Confirm the applicable fuel specification, including the required edition of ISO 8217 where referenced by the contract. Applicable MARPOL Annex VI requirements should be considered separately from the commercial fuel-quality specification.

Sampling arrangements, identification and handling of samples, selected methods and reporting requirements should be agreed before testing. Not every parameter is required for every fuel or investigation.
