What is ICTI?

The International Council of Toy Industries (ICTI) is the worldwide toy industry association. Its membership comprises national toy trade associations from 20 countries, each with its own membership of toy brands operating within its geographical area.

ICTI and its members are committed to promoting toy safety standards, reducing or removing trade barriers, and advancing social responsibility in toy manufacturing through programs addressing environmental issues, fair and lawful employment practices, and workplace safety.

ICTI’s mission

To act as a center for exchanging information and discussing trends and issues important to the toy industry; to promote safety standards, reduce or remove barriers to trade, and advance social responsibility through programs addressing environmental issues, fair and lawful employment practices, and workplace safety.

Established: September 1975

The International Council of Toy Industries’ social responsibility program has its Asian office in Hong Kong and its headquarters in New York.

ICTI has developed a substantial certification program, with 1,500 certified factories in more than 30 countries worldwide.

What is ICTI CARE?

The ICTI CARE program (Caring, Awareness, Responsible, Ethical) is the name of the ethical manufacturing program for the toy industry, which aims to ensure safe and humane working conditions for workers in toy factories worldwide.

Established by the International Council of Toy Industries (ICTI) to provide a single, fair, comprehensive and consistent program for monitoring toy factories’ compliance with the ICTI Code of Business Practices, ICTI CARE provides education, training and a unified monitoring program for toy factories.

The initial focus of ICTI CARE’s efforts was China, Hong Kong and Macau, where approximately 80% of the world’s toys were produced. The program would expand over time to other toy-producing countries.
