To help you learn how to calculate the score when evaluating the Higg index - Global ITVC would like to introduce to you the following scoring method:

Higg FEM Scoring System

Higg FEM is constantly being updated and improved, which may affect scoring. Any changes will be posted here and in the appropriate sections.

Please note, the Higg index's scoring system is designed to promote behavior change. This means that points are assigned only to “Yes” or “Partial yes” answers to questions that promote actions, decisions, and practices that lead to lasting results. better environmental sustainability. To receive points for a question, you must answer “Yes – yes” or “Partial yes” to all parts of the question, including the sub-questions.

Higg FEM assesses seven impact zones

The Higg Base Environment Module (Higg FEM) single-handedly rates your performance across seven areas of impact:

• Environmental management system

• Energy / Greenhouse Gas Emissions

• Country

• Waste

• Wastewater

• Emissions

• Chemical management

Each impact area is comprised of three levels (Levels 1, 2, and 3)

The questions are structured in a three-level structure (Levels 1, 2 and 3), representing common thresholds for good, better, and best:

• Level 1 - Awareness and understanding of sources and systems

• Level 2 - Set baselines, goals and track progress

• Level 3 - Leading positive practices

All parts have equal weight

Each section consists of 100 points. The total number of Higg FEM points is based on the possibility of 100 points, so each section score is worth an equal part (14.3%) of the total score assigned to the total Higg FEM score.

Score for each question

You earn points based on your answers to each question:

• For each “Yes” answer, you receive a full score.

• For each “Partial Yes” answer, you get half a point.

• For each “no or unknown” answer, you get 0 points.

Levels have different weights

Unlike sections, levels are not weighted equally. The weighting of the Higg FEM Level 2 is higher than that of the other levels because the questions at this level promote key performance improvement measures such as goal setting and tracking for cuts.

• Level 1 is worth 25% of the total possible points in the section. (Unless the applicable questions stop you at Level 1, Level 1 is worth 100% of the total possible points.)

• Level 2 is worth 50% of the total possible points in the section.

• Level 3 is worth 25% of the total possible points in the section.

Application possibilities

The new version of Higg FEM will include qualifying questions to ensure users only answer questions that apply to the assessed plant. These questions are called applicability tests. Users will be asked applicability questions at the start of the four sections of the Higg FEM (Water, Emissions, Wastewater and Chemicals).

If an establishment has not implemented a Level 1 practice (cannot answer Yes or a partial Yes), it cannot proceed with a Level 2 and Level 3 practice. This ensures that establishments perform successfully. practice level 1 (basic requirements), before proceeding to more advanced practices.

If you answer "no" or "unknown" to the question "Does your facility have a valid operating license" you will receive a score of 0 for the entire module.

2. Energy / Greenhouse Gas (GHG )

• Do not apply

• Level 1, question 1: You'll get full marks for following all sources, half points for following some, and no points for unfollowing.

• Low-risk/water-use facilities need only answer Water Question 1. In this case, the question is worth 100 points tracking all sources, 50 points tracking some. source and 0 points for not following the source.

• Level 3 was not tested because the question asked if the plant had calculated Scope 3 GHG emissions. The Scope 3 emissions calculation is an advanced data calculation step, but this calculation does not promote sustainability improvements. Sustainability improvements are controlled through the actions specified in Level 2.

3. Water

• Applicability:

o Heavy water users / High water risk

o Light water users / Low water risk

• Weighted Score

• Level 1, question 1: You'll get full marks for following all sources, half points for following some, and no points for unfollowing.

• Low-risk/water-use facilities need only answer Water Question 1. In this case, the question is worth 100 points tracking all sources, 50 points tracking some. source and 0 points for not following the source.

5. Wastewater

• Applicability:

o Industrial wastewater treatment (including domestic wastewater)

o Only domestic wastewater treatment

o Do not discharge liquid

• Level 1, question 1: You'll get full marks for following all sources, half points for following some, and no points for unfollowing.

• All levels will be displayed, regardless of your achievements in the previous level. This is the only part where this is the case.

NOTE: The wastewater section has the most application combination. Anywhere where no score is listed (leave blank) means that the question does not apply to that establishment.

6. Exhaust gas

• Applicability

o Emissions from operations (with or without refrigerant)

o Emissions from production

o Emissions from both operations and production (with or without refrigerant)

• Facilities will score on question 1 (airsourceopstrack) if there are no uncontrolled or non-compliant emissions activities (and they will not be asked to fill out an emissions tracking sheet).

7. Chemical management

• Applicability:

o Chemicals used in the production process

o No chemicals are used in the production process (No N/A selected)

o No chemicals are used in the production process (N/A selected for question 2)
