"Energy saving and efficiency" has been a priority issue in national energy policy, and is also an urgent need for businesses today. In fact, to reduce product costs, increase profits, improve competitiveness, enterprises need to apply different solutions, in which, the energy saving is one of the effective solutions.

Using energy efficiency has become a particularly important issue when the energy losses in production and transportation of our country is too high and Vietnam is becoming a importer of energy.

That is the issue raised at the conference on project for establishing the Law on saving and efficiency use of energy by the Committee of Science - Technology and Environment of the National Assembly held in the Hociminh city on August 26.

In the Government Statement on project for establishing the Law on saving and efficiency use of energy, the Ministry of Industry and Trade forecasts, by the end of this century, the energy source of Vietnam will become scarcer, oil and gas deposits will depleted. Meanwhile, the status of energy waste in industrial production, civil construction and transportation of our country is very large.

Efficiency of using energy resources in the coal-fired power plants, fuel oil power plant of our country only to be from 28-32%, lower than in the developed countries about 10%; efficiency performance of industrial boilers only to be 60%, lower than the world average of about 20%. Energy consumption per one product unit of major industries in our country is much higher than in developed countries.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the potential energy savings (energy efficiency) in industries like steel, cement, ceramics, frozen, consumer goods production in Vietnam can reach above 20%; field of construction, transportation can save over 30%; living and service activities are also significant potential for energy efficiency, but to implement it have not required major investment.
