Construction and equipment-installation supervision

Alongside design and construction, supervision plays an important role in controlling the quality of building works and equipment installation.

• Checking that construction and installation follow the design documents.
• Identifying and resolving details that are unclear to the contractor and project owner.
• Helping the project owner and designer address errors identified on site.

ITVC Global provides supervision through experienced engineers from relevant disciplines, supporting customer requirements, quality and the project schedule.

1. Conditions for commencement

Check the conditions for commencing construction against the requirements applicable to the project.

2. Contractor capability and systems

Check the construction contractor’s capability against its tender and contract, including:

• Personnel and construction equipment brought to the site.
• The contractor’s quality management system.
• Required authorisations and safety inspection records for machinery, equipment and materials used for construction.
• Laboratories and facilities producing construction materials, components and products for the contractor.

3. Materials and installed equipment

Check and supervise materials and equipment supplied by the contractor against the design requirements, including:

• Manufacturer quality certificates, laboratory test results and equipment quality-inspection records from competent bodies before materials, components, products and equipment are incorporated into the works.
• Where the contractor’s quality evidence is doubtful, support the owner’s direct checks of the materials and equipment concerned.

4. Construction supervision and acceptance

Inspection and supervision during construction, including:

• Review the contractor’s construction methods.
• Conduct regular, systematic site inspections and supervision, recording results in the owner’s supervision log or inspection records as required.
• Verify as-built drawings.
• Support and organise acceptance activities in accordance with the applicable requirements and contractual responsibilities.
• Compile and check records for acceptance of individual activities, components, construction stages, equipment, work items and the completed works.
• Identify design errors or inconsistencies and arrange for the responsible designer to make necessary adjustments.
• Arrange further quality inspection of components, work items or completed works where concerns arise.
• Lead or coordinate with the relevant parties to resolve issues arising during construction.
