ISO50001:2018 and its 2024 amendment
The ISO 50001:2011 framework helped organizations to:
An energy management system helps an organization understand current energy use, identify improvements and operate existing equipment more effectively. Better performance can reduce energy consumption and business costs; outcomes depend on actual conditions and implementation.
Operational controls can reduce the risk of non-compliance and associated penalties, but certification does not guarantee legal compliance or immunity from sanctions. Better energy management can also support greenhouse gas reduction projects.
Valid certification can support communication, customer confidence and market opportunities. It can help respond to supply-chain expectations but does not automatically remove trade barriers or guarantee market access.
The 2011 edition shared management-system features with ISO 14001:2004, making standalone or integrated implementation practical. These version references are historical.
By promoting systematic energy efficiency, an energy management system can support sustainable business development and environmental and social responsibility.
