Greenhouse gas inventory project

General introduction

The Greenhouse Gas Inventory Project is crucial in measuring and managing the amount of greenhouse gases emitted into the air during the company's production and business processes. Thereby also affirming the company's responsibility and potential in the market. As a reputable and experienced consulting unit in greenhouse gas inventory - ITVC Global has been selected as the contractor to implement the Greenhouse Gas Inventory Project at Chin Huei.

The project was implemented within 02 months, completed in November 2023, and has been appraised with good results and high accuracy/reliability thanks to the companionship of ITVC Global's greenhouse gas inventory experts.

Large amounts of greenhouse gases originate from the production process

Implementation steps

The process of conducting a greenhouse gas inventory as required by the Law must ensure the following essential activities:

Step 1: Determine the greenhouse gas inventory method at the regional level

Based on the 2006 National Greenhouse Gas Inventory Guideline (IPCC 2006) and the 2019 Greenhouse Gas Inventory Guideline completed for IPCC 2006 (IPCC 2019).

The detailed inventory method for each sub-sector is carried out according to the provisions in Appendix I.1 of Circular 17/2022/TT-BTNMT.

Step 2: Select sector-level greenhouse gas emission coefficient

Emission factors used to inventory field-level greenhouse gases are applied according to the emission factor list published by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

Step 3: Collect data on greenhouse gas inventory activities

Operational data sources are collected from the General Statistics Office and relevant agencies at both central and local levels.

Principles, processes, and forms for collecting operational data are implemented according to regulations in Appendix I.2 Circular 17/2022/TT-BTNMT.

Step 4: Calculate greenhouse gas emissions

Calculate and synthesize based on forms of activity data, emission coefficients, and global warming coefficients.

Step 5: Control the quality of greenhouse gas inventory

Step 6: Develop a report on greenhouse gas inventory results

Develop a report according to Form No. 04, Appendix II of Decree 06/2022/ND-CP regulating greenhouse gas emissions mitigation and ozone layer protection.

The proposed solutions are useful in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Importance of the project

Here are some benefits of greenhouse gas inventories:

- Assess the impact of production and business activities: This measurement and inventory helps the unit recognize its impact on climate change and the natural environment.

- Shaping policies and decisions: Data from greenhouse gas inventories provide information for businesses to shape policies and decide on implementation solutions related to climate change.

- Track progress on emissions reductions: Data from greenhouse gas inventories will help track the effectiveness of emissions reduction measures, identify important sources of emissions, and verify compliance with emissions reduction regulations Greenhouse.

- Measure progress and report: Data from the inventory is used to compare performance across different countries, industries, and organizations.

- Reduce production costs: When identifying emission areas, the unit conducting the greenhouse gas inventory will provide solutions to help reduce emissions. Moreover, in the long term, those solutions can help businesses save significant unnecessary costs.

- Promote international cooperation: Accurate and improved data from inventories help build trust and unity among international businesses. Promoting business cooperation between international businesses is a major goal that many businesses aim for for strong and long-term benefits.

Why should we conduct a greenhouse gas inventory early?

In addition to the greenhouse gas inventory required by international partners, 2024 is a mandatory year for all units on the announcement list according to the regulations of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

In addition, many units have conducted greenhouse gas inventories before the mandatory year because they clearly understand the most important point, which is to identify emission areas and plan for accurate reporting in advance. Enterprises need to determine the date from the initial date to the required year to ensure accurate data collection, ensuring standard and complete reporting for approval.
